Timeline Analysis
Queen Elizabeth was a great queen although her father declared her and her half sister Mary (Bloody Mary) inadequate in 1536. Her father was king during most of her lifetime until he died on January 28, 1537. No one knows what caused his death but many have theorized that the extensive amount of illnesses in his childhood may have played an affect on his later life.
The first major event that occurred in Queen Elizabeth’s life was when her father died because afterward she lived under the care of her stepmother, Catherine Parr. Only a couple months after her father died, her step mother re-married Thomas Seymour. Then on April 1st 1549 Seymour was executed on the charges on planning to marry Elizabeth as a plan to gain power. This affected Elizabeth because this could have had an affect on her later proposals in her life.
Another major event that changed Elizabeth was in 1554 when Thomas Wyatt made a rebellion. During this time, Elizabeth was imprisoned and Mary was Queen. But in an attempt to make Elizabeth queen, Wyatt organized a rebellion against Mary that eventually failed. When Mary found out about it’s intentions, she gave the blame to Elizabeth. This affected her because she realized that the people wanted her as the Queen although her father thought she was not ready and when Mary was queen. Later on November 17, 1558, Elizabeth was made queen. Without the Wyatt rebellion, Elizabeth may not have been ready to accept such a responsibility as queen.
Elizabeth had a very strong character that affected many people. An example of a time her personality could have played an affect on the lives of people would be when she executed Mary; her half sister. Mary, “Bloody Mary” as many people call her, was queen before Elizabeth. She is known by Bloody Mary because of the many lives that had been spilled on her behalf. The first life that she cost was of her cousin, Lady Jane Grey, to prevent her from gaining power. But she is more known for when she tried to turn England back to Roman Catholicism by force. As a result, hundreds of Protestant leaders were killed. Queen Elizabeth had to imprison her and execute her so stop her killings. This affected the people of England because it showed that Elizabeth did the right thing according to the law. She did not let her emotions/family members get in the way.
Up until the day Elizabeth died, she had “the heart and stomach of a man while trapped in a feeble woman’s body”. She is known to be very strong and influential to all. Something she did that not many other queens were known to do is that she went to the battles of her army. At many different instances, she would stand at the front lines shouting words of encouragement and strength to her forces. Elizabeth was influential and influenced by many.
